Subscribers of Amazon Prime are likely to see a price increase for the first time as the annual two-day free shipping membership is costing the retailer more every day.
This would be the first price increase in the nine years that Amazon launched its Prime membership and initially limited to US customers. The company said that it has shipped 19 million items since then.
The reason a Amazon Prime price increase is being considered is shipping cost and fuel cost prices have increased since the 2005 launch of the service.
Amazon wouldn’t speculate whether or not it would separate some of its Prime offerings from the shipping perks, namely Instant Video and Kindle Owners’ Lending Library, simply saying that "we like the service that we have."
