Our favourite medium speaker in the market, the Bose Soundlink Color, makes a return in its latest avatar, the Bose Soundlink Color II.
With the portable speaker market on fire and its rivals dishing out model after model, Bose finally decided to give its Soundlink Color the makeover. The Soundlink Color was one of the best speakers around anyway. In typical Bose fashion, it had everything you could ask for in a speaker – looks, performance and reliability. But it also commanded a slight premium for that. The Bose Soundlink Color II looks set to follow suit. We are very excited about this one. Learn more about the product in our following review.
The design is a big thing when it comes to Bose. All their devices and peripherals are beautifully designed. Everything is well thought out and the attention to detail is staggering. Even on a thing as small as a Bluetooth speaker, their build quality really shines through.
Materials used are of the highest quality and the speaker feels amazingly solid to hold also thanks to the texturized silicon outer. The IPX4 rating confirms that the design is splash proof and water friendly. A big aspect of the Soundlink Color lineup is the snazzy color options on offer.
The options aren’t as many as those provided by say, Ultimate Ears, but there is enough for everyone to find one he likes. The standard color options include – black, white, blue and orange. The blue here is a very bright and eye-catching shade and is definitely our favourite of the lot. Great overall design as usual.
The IPX4 certification is a real boon on any portable speaker and this one is no different. This makes the Soundlink Color II splash-proof so you don’t have to worry about using it near the pool or the beach or when it is raining.
Bose Connect App
Bose’s dedicated mobile app, the Bose Connect, really helps in exercising control and managing your device. The UI is really intuitive and lets you personalize settings according to your taste so you can enjoy the music to the fullest.
The Soundlink Color II does sport an on-board speakerphone. This means you can use your phone hands-free while it is connected to the speaker with ease.
Voice prompts mean it is easier than ever to pair your device using Bluetooth or NFC, whatever you choose.
Good Playback Capacity
The 8 hour of playback time may seem a tad low but given Bose’s reliability and the generally bloated figures quoted by other brands, this seems decent playback time nevertheless.
As with any Bose device, the build here is a big feature of the speaker. It has a wonderfully rugged and good-looking design. The outer has a soft silicon texture which makes it easier to grip and you won’t have to worry about it slipping off.

Bose’s products are almost perfect. And this one also comes very close to perfection. An IPX7 rating would be welcome and the battery could also be of higher capacity. Regardless of everything, the performance is unmatched for its size. The clarity and volume is astoundingly good.
But, being a Bose, it commands that slight premium which is definitely worth it in our opinion. If you are looking for a small handy speaker and have the budget for the Soundlink Color II, then you shouldn’t think twice about getting it.
